Paintings - Brian Scott Fine Art

Winter 2007

There has been a lot happening with Brian’s art just lately. We went on another cruise, from Venice to Istanbul and had a spectacular holiday. That was the rest we needed after our busiest summer ever. Areas of interest for Brian currently are Tofino, Whistler, Rivers Inlet and Sonora Island.

The Holidays are fast approaching, and Brian has been very busy doing commissions of people’s homes and cottages in time for Christmas giving. We have met some of the greatest people, and seen the most unbelievable homes through doing these house portraits. Sometimes they have a sense of melancholy - “that was my home at one point”, - others more humorous “I thought I never would want to see that old outhouse again! -but now I miss it!” Other folks have used them as prestige builders when they are marketing their homes. It then becomes a toss-up of who buys the painting, -the old owner, or the new buyer.

Whatever the reason, it is a fascinating business. The B.C. coast is changing so rapidly with the arrival of ‘green birds’ (from Alberta), that things will never be the same! For skiers watching the snow level, we were up Mt. Washington yesterday and it has lots of snow. I think they are opening on Dec. 5th.

A lot of you are going to be receiving a card from Brian soon, -in it he’s working on a piece of ‘outdoor’ art. Work that can stay out of doors in all weather has become an interest for Brian, - you can see a few examples on another part of this web page. These pieces can be a delightful focal point in the garden, and are a lot less ‘fussy’ than the more typical fountain.

Brian is going to be working with the Showcase Theatre production in it’s upcoming premier of a David Y.H. Lui production, (with David Warrick) of “Dancing in the Coaldust” -a play recounting the life of a labour organizer (Ginger Goodwin) in Cumberland. Jeff Hyslop will be doing the choreography. Watch for ticket sales, -the event is in this coming July.

So, no lack of work, or projects. We hope as you all head into whatever holiday you celebrate that you are well, content, and looking forward to the season. Our very best wishes to you all. Cheers!
